Description

As an artist, Joseph Grigely explores multifaceted aspects of spoken and written phenomena.

Conversation takes on particular significance for the artist, who lost his hearing at the age of ten. Grigely actually uses writing in order to communicate, when unable to read lips or in doubt. He asks people to write down what

they want to say and thus exchanges scraps of paper. Grigely keeps this

“daily life” material, creating installations with them and now, publishing a book. “Blueberry Surprise” consists of one continuous text of 45,000 words transcribed from these written conversations, collected over the last ten years. The reader switches from one voice to another according to the changing colors of the

sentences: red, orange and black. The book is printed on 150 g Opale Dialogue naturel paper 150 g. The cover is orange, and the jacket red. Produced and published by mfc-michèle didier, Brussels, in a limited edition of 250 numbered copies + 50 A.P. and to 22 sets of 44 unbound pages + 8 A.P.
