Description

The idea for the performance event documented here began with an English folk song about the 14th-century Peasants’ Revolt. Working with a group of creative mentors and more than 200 teenagers from across working-class east London, Scottish artist Ruth Ewan produced an event at The Savoy Hotel, filmed a documentary and created content for this publication. Responsible for every aspect of the project—including the menu, music, design and transport— the young participants took workshops with artists, historians, Savoy chef Martin Chiffers and poet Michael Rosen. The book includes plans, drawings, photographs and interviews, a commissioned text by Alistair Robinson, and archival images, maps and information on the historic “Precinct of the Savoy,” where wealthy debtors were once immune from arrest.
