An homage to Ed Ruscha’s book of the same name and format published in 1963. Pichler photographed 26 generic gas stations all over Brandenburg, Thuringen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany, each practically a carbon copy of the last and exhibiting the same architectural elements and signage. The last page with a photograph of a sheet of paper bearing the sentence: “The eccentric stations were the first ones I threw out,” a quote from Ed Ruscha made in reference his book from 1963.
