Aftertexts: Series Soft Launch

Time
5:00-7:00 PM

Art Metropole is pleased to announce Aftertexts, a new series of artists’ books focused on process and research as sites of artistic practice. Each publication centres on a different artist’s project, followed by texts offering analysis, poetic meditation, and new literary entrances into the work. We locate this series within Art Metropole’s 50-year history of supporting emerging artistic practices and experimental art writing.

Aftertexts Vol. 01, co-published with Franz Kaka, expands on the painting practice of Toronto-based artist Azadeh Elmizadeh, accompanied by a text by Nasrin Himada and an essay by Nima Esmailpour. Rooted in historical archives and ancient allegories, Elmizadeh’s paintings weave an interconnected narrative between spiritual and natural bodies. The publication features a new series of paintings, as well as preparatory collages that informed Elmizadeh’s exhibition, Timekeepers, currently on view at Franz Kaka. Through this body of work, she produces a material index that connects the terrestrial to the transcendental, underscoring the interconnectedness of human and non-human actors.

Please join us at Franz Kaka on Thursday April 17th, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 PM for a soft launch of Aftertexts Vol. 01, celebrated in conjunction with a closing reception for Azadeh Elmizadeh’s exhibition Timekeepers.

Forthcoming Aftertexts publications will feature artists Marvin Luvalu Antonio (Toronto, CA), Laila Majid & Louis Blue Newby (London, UK), and Lan “Florence” Yee (Toronto and Montreal, CA).
