Description

“Album IV” consists of hundreds of images culled from a variety of books, magazines, and other publications, montaged together to compose a kind of “image bank”.

Through processes of association and visual puns, the images of “Album IV” begin to compose an extended, even epic, narrative around various themes: pregnancy and childbirth, the trepidation towards first steps, the performativity of subjectivities, the schooling of children, the inculcation of hierarchies, the erotic dimension of mentorship and leadership roles, the formation of bonds of friendship and clique groupings, the sociological observation of interpersonal behaviour, the positive and negative reinforcement of behaviour and accomplishments, and social participation or withdrawal.

Using imagery excised from published sources, these topics weave to form an encyclopedic thesis on the pedagogical roots of social experience. “Album IV” is an invitation to construct associative narratives about our social experience by means of the visual material that surrounds us in the expanded cultural environment.
