One of Annie Dunning’s contributions to Art Metropole’s 2006 Gifts by Artists: a fired ceramic pine cone with a hot pink pompom tassel attached to it. The pine cone itself is uncannily realistic; painted and glazed, the tassel is soft and squishy, attached to the cone by its pink umbilicus. Perhaps intended as a Christmas tree ornament, the contrast between these two objects of such similar shape and such divergent texture bound to one another is open to speculation, they’re also really cute, too.
