Description

“A Good Painting” is a fabricated page torn from an imagined book. Echoing the Victorian literary styles of Charlotte Brontë, the passage narrates the struggles of a female protagonist and the capricious production of a painting.

Ambera Wellmann is a Canadian artist working in painting, assemblage, photography and video. Wellmann is a recent MFA graduate of the University of Guelph, Ontario, and was the 2016 recipient of the Joseph Plaskett Foundation Award. Wellmann has been a finalist in the 2016 and 2017 Canadian RBC Painting Competitions, and her paintings have been featured in Border Crossings Magazine, Canadian Art Magazine, and Vice. Wellmann’s works have been exhibited at the Power Plant Toronto, The National Gallery of Canada, and the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. Wellmann is represented by TrépanierBaer Gallery in Calgary. She lives and works in Berlin.
