Description

“Conditional design” is a method formulated by graphic designers Luna Maurer, Jonathan Puckey, Roel Wouters and the artist Edo Paulus, in which conditions and rules are drawn up that invite cooperation within a regulated process toward an unpredictable design or result. The method deals with chance, frameworks and generative systems, providing creative persons possibilities to play and allowing teams to set their own rules. This book functions as a workbook; material is organised in a step-by-step fashion. The authors also offer perspectives, wherein Adrew Blauvelt elaborates on the meaning of open processes for art and design and Koert van Mensvoort shows how conditional design can form the basis for large-scale urban projects.
