Description

Hirsch plays with international systems, symbols, and methods of measurement in her work – testing the limits of how a global society can be considered and represented. World Flag, commissioned for the exhibition Friends of the Divided Mind at the Royal College of Art (London), is composed of over 200 national standards, encompassing all sovereign countries worldwide. In this universal flag, the designs of single nations blur and morph into one, destabilizing the hegemonic character of the national flag.
