Description

This catalogue is a multi-faceted examination of Long’s work by Alissa Firth-Eagland and artists AA Bronson and Liam Gillick; it accompanies a 2008-09 exhibition held at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens.

Gareth Long is a conceptual artist who explores the infinitely reproducibile nature of video. By playing with translation, narrative and medium-specificity, his projects result in pieces far-removed from their source, often barely resembling the original in their new, compromised object-form. As a former student of video-pioneer Colin Campbell, Long and his work are a testament to Campbell’s ongoing influence.
