We have treated nature as something to extract from rather than learn alongside. Analog photography demands intentionality in our accelerated world, yet the chemistry used to develop these images contributes to the pollution of Earth’s water. These photos are developed using plant extracts that transform light-sensitive silver on the film’s surface into highlights, mid-tones, and shadows. This alternative process re-imagines film development as a part of a living cycle.
Infused Light depicts the elemental volatility between humans and the environment. Bodies are immersed in water, fire ignites dried plants, and traces of human touch are revealed. Made visible through natural processes, the images demonstrate the possibility of designing with nature, rather than against it. By learning from patterns that already work, sustainable analog photography becomes an act of partnership with living systems.
