Description

In 1982, artist Joseph Beuys embraced pop music with this attack on US President Ronald Reagan’s arms policy. “Regen,” pronounced like ‘Reagan,’ is the German word for ‘rain.’ The A-side song title translates to “Sun instead of Reagan.” This politically-charged recording is performed by Beuys (vocals), and an instrumental line-up including guitars, bass and drums. The 2-song vinyl single was released in Germany in 1982, on the Musikant Record label, in 7” and 12” vinyl versions, with sleeve artwork by Beuys. Beuys performed the song live during peace movement demonstrations, as well as on the ARD television broadcast “Bananas” ( 03.07.82). See the original television broadcast on YouTube.
