The Space Traffic symposium brought 17 alternative art spaces to Hong Kong in December 2001 to explore issues around artist-directed art and culture with a focus on the Asia-Pacific.
The delegate hospitality package included a spiral bound notebook. Hank Bull used this notebook to compose his presentation and read it aloud as a performance work. The original manuscript is held in the collection of the Asia Art Archive.
Marking the 20th anniversary of Space Traffic, three of the original participants, West Space (Melbourne), Para Site (Hong Kong), Western Front (Vancouver), and a new partner, Enjoy Contemporary Art Space (Aotearoa), revisited this agenda with an online symposium called “The Region: dialogues on the power and precarity of artist self-organization in the Asia-Pacific,” held in September 2021.
This publication reproduces the original manuscript first delivered at the Space Traffic symposium, Hong Kong, 2001.
