Description

This publication is produced in conjunction with the solo exhibition ‘Cause I work so hard to make it everyday which took place in 2018 at Artspace in Peterborough, Ontario. A large-scale multimedia work, ‘Cause I work so hard to make it everyday is inspired by a cassette recording of the artist and her cousins as children that contained sounds of them playing, singing and giggling. This publication features writings by Lisa Myers with a forward by Erin Sutherland, and black and white photos of Melissa General’s work.

Melissa General is a Mohawk artist from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. She is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design and received a Masters of Fine Arts degree from York University. She is a multidisciplinary artist working in photography, audio, video and installation.
