The short story and the book The Child and the Harp present a glimpse into the dreamlike and chaotic world of a child. The moon is closer to the Earth than ever before which causes great disruption to the planet as we know it.

The child finds themselves in a fantastic place, equally magical and dangerous as they rummage the shapeshifting lands of what used to be their home.

Alongside the child’s story, the reader is presented with a personal text written from the author’s point of view. The author reflects on his relationship with his mother – their differences and their meeting points; an attempt to understand and accept his mother, her view of the world and her religious beliefs despite the difficulties that seem to come with trying to understand her ways.

By combining fantastic fable-like narration with narration about personal thoughts regarding family relations The Child and the harp presents multiple paths of reality, equality unstable and equally real – to think of the world as several places in constant fluctuation at once.
