Monk uses Jeremy Blake’s films (themselves referencing the story of the widow of the inventor of the Winchester Repeating Rifle, whose guilt for all the deaths caused by the invention that made her rich compelled her to unendingly add to her mansion to confound pursuing spirits) as an inspiration for a very poetic reflection on the American preoccupation with violence.
