198 is a Toronto-based publication focused on photography across its many forms and applications. Through different themes, the magazine will explore how featured artists and contributors utilise the medium of photography to interact with the world. 198 aims to explore all avenues of contemporary art, culture, and life.
Rooted in Toronto, 198 is a namesake: the address at which the publication was brought to life–198 ******* Street. Toronto is, famously, an extremely diverse and multicultural city. With five founding members from various cultural backgrounds, 198 hopes to operate in a similar fashion.
Issue 00 ‘Prototype’ is exactly that, a prototype, a sort of test-run: an introduction to the publication and a chance for us to gauge audience interaction, see what works and what doesn’t. Including photos by four of the five founding members, issue 00 gives readers a sense of our house style, what grabs our eye, what we tend to shoot.
