Informed by the zinemaker’s grief after her adoption from China, Jiāpǔ is about fallibility of ‘solid’ structures (family, body, buildings, bone) that are made of unknowable parts. Filled with X-rays scanned from a radiology textbook, the zine highlights the violence and intertwinedness of motherhood, death, birth, and kinship.
Printed on semi-transparent vellum and hand-bound in a style reminiscent of surgical sutures.
