Description

Perimeter is thrilled to announce the launch of our second Perimeter Editions title, Everyday by Melbourne artist Emily Ferretti. Ferretti’s oil-on-linen paintings of plants, rocks, domestic settings, sporting ephemera and architectural details are remarkable for their lightness of touch and subtleties in process, tonality and mark making, sidling the representational and abstract via a quiet, poetic tenor. Isolated from wide narrative and context, her various fragmentary scenes – athletic tracks, skate ramps, pot plants or winter forest scapes – work to bestow the day-to-day with a particular gravity and significance. The book features a text by artist Laith McGregor.

Emily Ferretti has shown widely in artist run and commercial spaces throughout Australia. A selection of recent exhibitions include Paint Everyday, Sophie Gannon Gallery (Melbourne, 2013); Geelong Contemporary Art Prize, Geelong Art Gallery (Victoria, 2012); Paul Guest Prize, Bendigo Art Gallery (Victoria, 2012); Between Painted Places, Firstdraft (Sydney, 2012); Blue by hand, Sophie Gannon Gallery (Melbourne, 2011); Pot Plants and Landscapes, Gertrude Contemporary (Melbourne, 2011); Slowness, Monash University Museum of Art (Melbourne, 2011); and Small Worlds, West Space (Melbourne, 2010). She has recently finished a two-year studio residency at Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne, and was a recipient of the 2010 Art Gallery of NSW Moya Dyring Memorial Art Award with a residency at the Cite des Arts Internationale, Paris. Her work is held in public and private collections throughout Australia and the UK.
