Description

“All too frequently the apparent and open is confused with a unified, recognizable style. But Trockel has no style. The manner in which she alternates between different techniques is her way of drawing both evasively and directly at the same time. In the place of style, the works form various figures, movements and shapes that in turn lend limitations to the works. What we’re talking about is the difference between style and material. Style exists, while material is shaped. A style can appear from unity and order, but an artistic work does not primarily need style. It needs material.” As aptly stated by Thomas Millroth of the Ystad Museum of Art in Sweden on Trockel’s “Work On Paper.” Works included are doodles, formal drawings, collage and photography.
