Each page features one of a series of still images from Christophe Boutin’s video-work of a Christ-like man who travels on a commercial airline to Rome and visits its various religious sites and monuments before returning to the airport.
The black and white images that make up this work are juxtaposed with biblical quotations from the apostles.
The draped, Christ-like figure is often greeted by passers-by with indifference or with the occasional stern glance.
Boutin’s project provides some wonderful visual contrasts including the Christ-like figure standing in an antiseptic public washroom, reviewing a sunglasses salesman’s wares or sitting on a stoop with rowdy teenagers.
Edition of 1000, unsigned and unnumbered.
