“Barbara Ess Fragments come from a number of Barbara’s notebooks dated 2014–2020. In the wake of her death in 2021, sorting through her archive, Barbara’s sisters Janet and Ellen spent time with these notebooks, reading through them and, over the last year, identifying passages they thought might be of interest to her public. Some pages they digitally photographed and shared with me through a Google Drive, from which I selected thirty fragments and sequenced them in the order as they appear in this volume.”
