Produced by Curatorium and the Burnaby Art Gallery, ‘The Rest is Up to Us’ is a publication of essays, poetry, artistic interventions and reflections on rest, joy, and dreaming fostered through collaborative models that decenter colonial institutional culture and practices.

‘Imagine a world where all cultural workers can thrive instead of living to survive. What systems of support are in place? What practices activate, provoke, spark this cultural shift? How would you practice rest as an integral element of your everyday life, not just a temporary retreat?’

Grounded in ongoing conversations that emerged from a residency at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, the publication traces a collective effort to move towards a seemingly unreachable hammock of rest as a practice of resistance.

Curatorium is an ad-hoc collective that brings together artists, arts workers, and curators of diverse disciplines and practices to expand networks of relationships and care across geographies and time zones.
