Brubey Hu explores home and identity through this beautiful set of bilingual artist’s books. The Waterloo-based artist wrote a collection of poetry in Chinese to reflect on her hybrid identity, travels, and memories. Hu had this work translated into English by Sissi Jialu Zheng, then had her family and friends translate the poems back into Chinese to investigate how information, meaning, and emotion “evaporate” between the three versions. Hu’s stunning book design includes grids, a rhombus motif, and bindings that evoke passports and travel journals.
